Ecommerce analytics services

Most stores see different numbers in their ad platforms, GA4 and Shopify. That is normal, but it should be understood. Data and analytics work makes your tracking accurate, explains the differences and gives you reports you can act on.

ServiceWhat it isBest forLink
Server-side trackingServer-side tracking sends some of your tracking data through a server you control, so less is lost to browsers and blockers. It can improve your data, but it adds running costs and upkeep, and it does not remove the need for visitor consent.Stores with meaningful ad spend whose tracking has gaps that make decisions harder, and whose basic GA4 and conversion tracking are already sound. GA4 setup and auditsA GA4 audit checks whether your analytics records what really happened in your store. We compare GA4 with your real orders, check your events and settings, and give you a list of what to fix, in priority order.Stores that already have GA4 but do not trust it, stores about to start spending on ads, and stores that have just changed platform and want to check nothing was lost. Attribution and dashboardsOne view of sales, spend and channels, built around the decisions you need to make. We show blended measures such as MER next to platform figures, and say plainly what attribution cannot tell you.Stores that spend across several channels and want one trusted view of what marketing is doing, built on tracking that already matches real orders. Why numbers disagree

A store usually has three sources of truth that do not match: the ad platform, GA4 and the store itself. Each counts differently. An ad platform may credit a sale to an ad someone saw but did not click. GA4 may miss visitors who declined tracking. The store counts every order, but knows nothing about where the visitor came from.

Some gap is normal. The job is to know how big it is, why it exists and which source to use for which decision.

What to fix first

Work in this order, because each step depends on the one before:

  1. Purchases. Does tracked revenue match your real orders, within a gap you can explain?
  2. The buying journey. Product views, basket and checkout steps, so you can see where people drop out.
  3. Ad platform connections. Are conversions reaching Google Ads and the others correctly?
  4. Consent and data quality. Is tracking respecting visitor choices, and is the data clean?
  5. Reporting. Only then, a report built on numbers you trust.

Choosing between the three services

  • GA4 setup and audits is the place to start for most stores. It checks and fixes what is tracked now.
  • Server-side tracking can recover some data lost to blockers and consent choices, but it adds cost and complexity, and it does not bypass visitor consent. It suits stores with meaningful ad spend.
  • Attribution and ROI dashboards turn sound data into reports for decisions. They are only as good as the tracking underneath them.

Where this connects to other work

Ad spend is where bad data costs most, so PPC depends on this work. Analytics also shows conversion rate optimisation where visitors drop out, and helps you judge what email marketing really contributes.

We work in GA4, Google Tag Manager and Looker Studio.

Each service in Data and analytics

  • Server-side tracking

Server-side tracking sends some of your tracking data through a server you control, so less is lost to browsers and blockers. It can improve your data, but it adds running costs and upkeep, and it does not remove the need for visitor consent.

  • GA4 setup and audits

A GA4 audit checks whether your analytics records what really happened in your store. We compare GA4 with your real orders, check your events and settings, and give you a list of what to fix, in priority order.

  • Attribution and dashboards

One view of sales, spend and channels, built around the decisions you need to make. We show blended measures such as MER next to platform figures, and say plainly what attribution cannot tell you.

How it works

Every project is different, so timings depend on its size and complexity. You get a realistic timeline in writing before work starts, and we never promise results by a date.

  1. Step 1: Check

We compare what your store recorded with what analytics and each ad platform report.

  2. Step 2: Explain

We write down why the numbers differ, and which ones to rely on for which decision.

  3. Step 3: Fix

We correct tracking, starting with purchases, then the rest of the buying journey.

  4. Step 4: Report

We build reports around the questions you actually need answered.

How every project runs

Questions people ask

Why do my ad platform, GA4 and Shopify show different numbers?

Each one measures in its own way. They use different attribution rules, time windows, consent settings and ways of counting. Some difference is normal. A large or unexplained gap is a sign something is wrong with tracking, and that is what we look for.

Which number should I trust?

For actual sales and revenue, your store's own order records. For understanding behaviour, analytics. For judging a platform, its own figures with caution. No single source answers every question.

Do I need GA4 as well as Shopify's reports?

They answer different questions. Shopify shows what was sold. GA4 shows how visitors found and moved through the store. Most stores that spend on marketing benefit from both.

What does consent mean for tracking?

In the UK, many tracking technologies need the visitor's agreement first. Since February 2026, cookies used only to count visits and improve the site can run without asking first, if visitors are told and can switch them off. Advertising and most third-party tracking still need agreement. Either way, some people opt out, which is one reason numbers disagree. We set up tracking to respect their choices, and we explain what is lost. We are not lawyers, so take legal advice if unsure.

What should I fix first?

Purchase tracking. If sales are not recorded accurately, nothing built on top can be trusted. After that, the other steps in the buying journey, then reporting.

Can analytics prove which ad caused a sale?

Not exactly. Attribution is an informed estimate, and each method has blind spots. We show you the limits and use several views, so decisions are not based on one flattering number.
