IRP Commerce to Shopify migration

Your customers, orders, products and content belong to your business. Here is how we plan a move from IRP Commerce to Shopify with that data, your URLs and your reporting history kept safe.

Is this right for you?

Who it is for

Established retailers on IRP Commerce who want full control of their data and a platform their team can run and extend without specialist help.

When it is not

Stores that rely heavily on IRP Commerce's trading analytics or multichannel tools and have no plan to replace them, or that need a payment processor Shopify does not support. We tell you honestly if staying put is the better choice.

Your data is yours

  • Your customers, orders, products, content and media belong to your business.
  • Before anything else, we agree what can be exported, in what format and when, so you stay in control of your data throughout the move.
  • We keep your URL history and redirects, and plan how to preserve your reporting history, so you can still compare this year with last.

What is included

  • An agreed list of what can be exported, in which formats and by when
  • Your customers, orders, products, content and media moved across and checked
  • Your URL history kept, with a permanent redirect for every old address
  • Replacements agreed for trading analytics, feeds, multichannel stock, order tooling and carriers

What moves, what is replaced

What moves across or changes

  • CustomersCustomer records move across. Customers set a new password the first time they sign in.
  • Orders and order historyPast orders are imported so your records and customers' histories stay complete.
  • Products, variants, stock levels and imagesTitles, descriptions, prices, SKUs and categories, with media files.
  • Pages and other contentContent is moved and checked, with its web addresses kept or redirected.
  • URL historyEvery old address is recorded and mapped to its new home with a redirect.
  • Reporting historyHistoric figures are exported and kept in a form you can compare against. New reporting is set up in Shopify and your analytics tools.

What gets replaced

  • Your theme and designThe storefront is rebuilt as a Shopify theme to match your brand.
  • Trading analyticsReplaced by Shopify reports and your analytics tools. We agree which reports you rely on and rebuild them.
  • Shopping feedsFeeds for channels such as Google Shopping are set up again through Shopify and a feed app, and checked before launch.
  • Multichannel stock and order managementHandled through Shopify and its apps or your existing stock system. We agree the setup with you.
  • Order and warehouse toolingConnected or replaced with Shopify apps or integrations. We list each tool and agree what takes its place.
  • Carriers and shipping rulesCarriers, rates and labels are set up again in Shopify and tested with real orders.

IRP Commerce suits established retailers that need trading analytics, multichannel stock and order management, and shopping feeds. If you are considering Shopify, this page explains how we move you across, starting with your data.

Why people make the move

  • Wanting full control of your customer, order and product data
  • Needing to keep years of reporting history for year-on-year comparisons
  • Wanting a platform that your team can run and extend without specialist help
  • Wanting to see the full cost of running your store, in one place

How your search rankings are protected

  1. Keep your URL history. We record every address on your current store, and note which ones bring in visitors and links.
  2. Map each old URL to a new one. Every old address is matched to its new home on Shopify, one by one, and set up as a permanent redirect.
  3. Carry over titles and descriptions. Page titles, meta descriptions and headings move with the page, so search engines see the same content.
  4. Test before launch. We check the redirects on a staging copy, so broken links are fixed before they can affect visitors.
  5. Monitor after launch. We watch search reports and errors for several weeks, and fix anything that slips through.

Before you plan a move

Check your contract’s notice period and data export terms before planning a move, and take legal advice if unsure.

Where to go next

How we do it

Every project is different, so timings depend on its size and complexity. You get a realistic timeline in writing before work starts, and we never promise results by a date.

  1. Step 1: Check your agreement and agree your exports

You review your contract's notice period and data export terms. We then agree what data you need, in which formats and by when.

  2. Step 2: Audit

We review your products, customers, orders, content, URLs, integrations and reports, and agree what moves and what is replaced.

  3. Step 3: Build

We set up the Shopify store, import your data and rebuild or reconnect analytics, feeds, stock, order tools and carriers.

  4. Step 4: Test

We check orders, stock, emails, payments, feeds, carriers and redirects before anything goes public.

  5. Step 5: Launch

We switch over at a quiet time and monitor search and sales closely afterwards.

How every project runs

What it costs

Shopify migration starts from £7,500. The price changes with the size of your catalogue, the integrations to reconnect and how complex your data is. Every project gets a fixed quote in writing, and shows what is included.

Questions people ask

Who owns the data in my store?

Your business owns its customer, order, product and content data. Check your contract's notice period and data export terms before planning a move, and take legal advice if unsure.

What can I export from IRP Commerce?

IRP Commerce lets you export your product and admin data as CSV files. What else is available depends on your agreement, so we agree the exact list with you at the start, aiming for customers, orders, products, content and media.

Will I keep my reporting history?

We plan for it. Historic figures are exported and kept in a form you can compare against, while new reporting is set up in Shopify and your analytics tools.

Will I lose my search rankings?

Not if the move is planned properly. We map every old URL to its new home and check the redirects before and after launch.

Was IRP Commerce previously called something else?

Yes. IRP Commerce Limited was formerly known as Export Technologies.
