Magento to Shopify migration
A planned move from Magento or Adobe Commerce to Shopify that keeps your data, your URLs and your search rankings intact.
Is this right for you?
Who it is for
Store owners whose Magento or Adobe Commerce store costs more to run and change than the business needs.
When it is not
Stores with very complex B2B requirements that Magento already handles well, or that need a payment processor Shopify does not support. We tell you honestly if staying put is the better choice.
What is included
- Your catalogue, customers, order history and content moved across and checked
- A Shopify theme built or adapted to match your brand
- Each extension reviewed and replaced by an app, a built-in feature or custom work
- Every old address mapped to its new home with a permanent redirect
What moves, what is replaced
What moves across or changes
- Products, attributes and imagesTitles, descriptions, prices, SKUs, stock levels and categories. Complex attributes are mapped with you.
- CustomersCustomer records move across. Customers set a new password the first time they sign in.
- Order historyPast orders are imported so your records and customers' histories stay complete.
- Pages, blocks and blog contentContent is moved and checked, with its web addresses kept or redirected.
What gets replaced
- Your theme and designMagento themes do not carry over. We build or adapt a Shopify theme to match your brand.
- Custom pricing rules and customer groupsShopify handles these differently. We agree how each rule is rebuilt, and flag anything that needs a different approach.
- Extensions and custom modulesEach extension is reviewed. Many have a Shopify app or built-in equivalent, and some need custom work.
Magento and Adobe Commerce can do a great deal, but they can also ask a great deal of you in cost and upkeep. If that balance has shifted, Shopify may suit you better. This page explains how we move you across.
Why people make the move
- Running costs for hosting, developers and upgrades that keep climbing
- Upgrades and security patches that are slow, risky or expensive
- Changes that need a developer, even for small things
- A store that has grown more complex than the business needs
How your search rankings are protected
Every page that has a value in search gets a redirect from its old address to its new one. We map them one by one, before launch, rather than relying on automatic rules alone.
- Crawl and list your URLs. We record every address on your current store, including category paths and layered navigation pages that bring in visitors.
- Map each old URL to a new one. Every old address is matched to its new home on Shopify, one by one, and set up as a permanent redirect.
- Carry over titles and descriptions. Page titles, meta descriptions and headings move with the page, so search engines see the same content.
- Test before launch. We check the redirects on a staging copy, so broken links are fixed before they can affect visitors.
- Monitor after launch. We watch search reports and errors for several weeks, and fix anything that slips through.
Keeping Magento patched
Whatever you decide about moving, keep Magento and every extension patched, remove the ones you no longer use, and rotate credentials when a vendor advises it. That includes PHP2Shell, two critical flaws in PHP itself announced in October 2026, which affect any store running PHP until it’s updated. Our article on Magento and WooCommerce security flaws in 2026 has the dated detail.
Where to go next
- For the process that applies to every platform, see our Shopify migration services overview.
- The new store is built to the standard described on our Shopify development page.
- Protecting your search visibility carries on after launch. Our SEO for ecommerce service builds on the redirects above, and a GA4 setup and audit keeps your tracking continuous through the move.

How we do it
Every project is different, so timings depend on its size and complexity. You get a realistic timeline in writing before work starts, and we never promise results by a date.
Step 1: Audit
We review your catalogue, customers, orders, extensions and URLs, and agree what moves and what is replaced.
Step 2: Build
We set up the Shopify store, import your data and rebuild the features you still need.
Step 3: Test
We check orders, emails, payments, integrations and redirects before anything goes public.
Step 4: Launch
We switch over at a quiet time and monitor search and sales closely afterwards.
What it costs
Shopify migration starts from £7,500. The price changes with the size of your catalogue, the integrations to reconnect and how complex your data is. Every project gets a fixed quote in writing, and shows what is included.
Questions people ask
Is Adobe Commerce the same as Magento?
Adobe Commerce is the paid edition of Magento. The move to Shopify follows the same steps for both, though the data and extensions involved can differ.
Will I lose my search rankings?
Not if the move is planned properly. We map every old URL to its new home and check the redirects before and after launch.
What happens to my custom extensions?
We review each one with you. Many can be replaced by a Shopify app or a built-in feature, and we will say clearly where custom work is needed.
Will my store be offline during the move?
Your current store stays live while we build the new one. The switch-over is planned for a quiet time and is usually brief.
